Few precautions to be taken after a bypass surgery

Bypass surgery, which is medically known as Coronary Artery Bypass (CAB), is a leading issue amongst Indians although it contributes well to the other parts of the world as well. Many factors lead to this situation where one has to go for the CAB, but before discussing them, it is important to know the symptoms that can make one feel that he needs to meet a cardiologist who is commonly known as a heart specialist. He is an expert who knows this organ well and guides one that can help him sustain. The cases of bypass surgeries, both in men and women are increasing over the period. The need for bypass surgery arises when the arteries supplying blood to the heart develops blockage due to calcium or fat deposit. This obstructs the blood flow causing severe pain in the chest and cardiac arrest.

The bypass heart surgery in India is performed to create a bypass for the artery to ensure sufficient blood flow to the heart. A new artery is taken from the leg or arm and attached to the heart which allows blood flow. Thus, a bypass surgery gives new life to the heart in the form of ample supply of oxygen-rich blood.

Considering how major the bypass surgery is, it is important to observe few precautions post-surgery. Usually, the patient is discharged from the hospital after 7 to 10 days of the stay, keeping in mind their recovery status. The challenging part comes after surgery as the patient needs to take more care at home.

Here’s a look some precautions to follow:

  1. While the patients are advised to walk few steps after few days of surgery, they should avoid exerting themselves at any cost. The patient is recovering and needs ample rest to avoid fatigue. Good sleep is a must for the patient’s recovery.
  2. The patient is still weak and needs to take rest. He/ she should avoid talking too much and straining themselves. Talking also consumes energy. Thus the patient should avoid talking for long.
  3. The patient in no case should engage in any physical activity that strains the body, especially They should avoid lifting weights to prevent injuring their newly operated chest.
  4. The patient should not stand in one position for long as it would strain their feet.
  5. The patient should also avoid sitting in the same position for long to avoid straining their back. Instead, they should take a small walk around the house for few minutes.
  6. The person should avoid traveling for a longer duration for few initial months and avoid driving the car.
  7. For a heart patient, diet plays a crucial role. They need to consume a diet that is healthy and has less of fat, oil, and salt content.
  8. They need to keep their sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels in control all the time.
  9. They should avoid smoking and drinking.

With the help of a few precautions and regular checkup, one can easily overcome this situation.
